Official Standards for Qualifying

2) Qualification Requirements

a) Teams (schools) earn qualification slots

b) A team earns one slot for each individual player who plays at least three games and scores three or more points in a Qualifier. The slot is for a particular section (thus a three point score in the elementary section of a qualifier earns a slot for the elementary section at the Arizona Scholastic Chess Championships).

c) No individual player may earn more than one slot for their school in a particular year. If a player achieves a qualifying score more than once, then only one qualifying score earns a slot.

d) A team may bring as many players to a section at the Arizona Scholastic Chess Championships as they have slots in that section plus one.

e) A team that has earned three slots in a section may bring five players to the Arizona Scholastic Chess Championships in that section.

f) In order to qualify for the K-1 section a player must play four games or score 3 or more points in a qualifier (any section).
